[I] just purchased a boat cover for my [1981] Montauk 17.
Does anyone secure [their boat cover] so it doesn't get stolen?
I was told to spray paint my license plate number on [the boat very cover.
[Tell me] other ideas [to dissuade thieves from stealing the cover for my 1981 Montauk boat]

Re: Securing a boat cover
Im not sure spray paint is a good product to spray on your cover fabric. I believe that if spray paint is applied it will not have much service life due to the flexing of the cover when it is removed and reinstalled each time the boat is used. Rain and wind may also make the paint illegible.
After forty years of boating I have not heard of a boat cover theft.

Is there a big black market in stolen covers for 1981 Montauk 17 boats?

Not sure, but I don't want to be the one to find out.
Just trying to be a little pro active, but it seems theft of a boat cover is not a big deal.
