Hello,
I am getting around to restoring an 1989 22' Outrage and noticed that as the bottom paint was wearing off, I could see a distinct square on each side of the hull. Is anyone familiar with that these are or could have been?

Looks like an old previous repair possibly where the hull fell down on some supports. Does your trailer have rollers or bunks?

Trailer has rollers for the keel and bunks on the side. This boat has been in my family since around 2001 and since then nothing has really happened to it under our care. I'm 100% positive this would have had to occur before we owned the boat. We bought the boat with bottom paint and over the years it has worn off, but its odd to me that it wore off completely on those square areas.

My guess is that it is where the boat was supported on stands (off a trailer) during bottom painting. This is just a guess, but the pattern looks like a boat stand (jack stand), and perhaps as the boat was painted, and then the stands shifted to cover the area of the jack stands, the amount of paint, or quality, or something or other, was different. As the bottom paint wore off, it revealed this inconsistent bottom paint in the form of a jack stand pad pattern. But, I could be wrong.

This makes a lot of sense - that certainly does look like a boat jack stand. Thank you for your input

On larger boats, this is pretty typical. The bottom gets a few coats of bottom paint with the boat on stands, then when the boat's ready to launch they lift it in the TravelLift straps, slap a quick coat of paint where the stands were, and launch--often just a few minutes later. It's pretty clear what wears off first.

ASIDE: I like your trailer set up with keel rollers.
