Any creative suggestions on how to cover unsightly small holes on the top of your console due to the removal of electronic devices and their or mounts?

I would like to avoid any fiberglass work.

Push-in hole plugs work good. Good size and color selection at local hardware stores like Ace or True Value. Or mask area with hole punch in masking tape and use white or beige silicone.

Installing small stainless steel round head bolts in the console is less unsightly than bare holes. Our former yacht tender Sport 13 has more than a few of these. I assume they were once used for mounting lifting eyes. They really don't look bad. Acorn nuts are used on the hull exterior side. If we ever decide to refinish the boat we will remove the bolts and have them filled.

To fill old fastener holes from mounting brackets for electronic devices now removed:

—use an off-white or almond bath tub silicon caulk.

—use a machine screw; if a flush finish is needed, use a flathead screw.

I use a plastic hole plug. They come in many sizes, available at hardware store or builder supply stores.

I dab the hole with sealant to keep out any moisture.

Phil,

I have not seen those but they look ideal for the purpose. Thanks for the "new" solution.

One of the first things I did on my 1987 Montauk way back in 2003.

I recall there were 3 sizes of holes. Found them at my local hardware store.

I replaced the wood cover with a VHF.

Those are a great idea. I've never seen those, what section of a hardware store would they be in?

I have always found them In the hometown hardware or local/regional chains (TruValue, Ace etc) they are typically in one of a dozen small slide out drawers of specialty hardware (covers, hole plug, grommets etc.).

The big box store (Lowes, HD etc) have them also.

The key name is "hole plug".
