[Give me a source] for replacement black plastic hinges, three-inches-long, with six screw holes, as used on a 1988 15 foot Supersport Limited.

Thanks for any help.

Where are the hinges?

I have a 1990 15' Super Sport Limited and do not have any black plastic hinges. All hinges are stainless steel on seats , anchor locker , and rear deck cover.

Boston Whaler may have [information on replacement black plastic hinges].

Any common hardware component on a Boston Whaler boat like a hinge would be unlikely to be a component made by Boston Whaler. This is particularly true for a plastic hinge, which is probably made by injection molding of thermo-plastic. I do not recall any injection-molded thermo-plastic products being made by Boston Whaler themselves.

The black plastic hinge is most likely a standard, off-the-shelf hinge available from a marine hardware manufacturer. You can find hardware for boats at many marine stores.

Generally Boston Whaler would use high-quality components for items like a hinge. Therefore it seems a bit odd that Boston Whaler would employ a plastic hinge. Usually Boston Whaler would have used a metal hinge, often a stainless steel hinge.

How many hinges need replacement?

Where are they used on your boat?

I want to find stainless steel hinges to replace the [black plastic hinges].

There are nine plastic hinges on the Super Sport Limited models, and they do fail as the boat gets older. Three hinges are under each seat bench, and three hinges under the rear seat back.

There is a Perko version that appears to be the right one.

There are two sizes.

This is the cheapest price I found. Brace yourself.

I was going to say that is a good decision. But with nine hinges and at $66 per hinge, that will be a $600 investment.

Look around and you can save a bundle. In the past I've seen them for $5 - $10 per hinge in 316 stainless. Most stainless hardware comes out of China and the markup some companies put on it for the privilege of buying it in their spiffy packaging is insane.

In Canada we have a store, Lee Valley, which sells quality stuff, they stock a lot of hinges for cabinet makers, including stainless steel. I found a set I could use on my Igloo cooler to replace those plastic ones on the lid. They have 304 stainless, not as good as 316, but better than black plastic. They may have 316 too in some items.

They are very helpful and likely ship.

You may find a similar type of business in your area. Lee Valley sell mostly products that are very well made, unlike many places these days that sell very low quality.

The hinges shown in the linked resource above look good.
