RAGE 15 with 115-HP Jet

Postby Fuzzy748 » Thu Jun 13, 2019 12:26 pm

Hi, I’ve bought a RAGE 15 with the OMC 115 jet and the engine has problems in starting and running. The engine is difficult to start and only runs at high engine speed. It has a strange clonk when it stops--and stops abruptly. But the sound doesn’t sound mechanical. The engine spins over nicely without plugs fitted. Cylinder pressure readings are equal on all cylinders,

The OMC 115 engine just stopped and sheared its flywheel woodruff key.

I plan to use a strobe light to see when each cylinder fires and check timing.

Also I’ve decided to remove engine from the jet drive. I’ve undone the mounts, electric, and plumbing.

Q1: is there is coupling to undo [between the engine and the jet drive]?

Q2: Does the engine simply lift off the jet drive?

I’d much appreciated any advice with reference to the symptoms I mention above.

I’ve read about the [Power Pack] causing problems.

Also I’d like to locate and download a manual.

Thanks in advance
Andy

Service Manual is available from http://www.turbojetmarineproducts.com.

The clunk you are hearing when it stops abruptly is the gear backlash or space between the teeth of the gears.

This is probably not the cause of your problem but a noise you hear when the motor stalls.

Q3: What was the cylinder pressure reading in PSI on each cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4?

Q4: Has the boat been sitting a long time?

Q5: If f the boat sat for a long time have the carburetors been cleaned?

Q6: How does it run at high speed or have you not had it on the lake?
