Anderson Upholstery

Postby biggiefl » Tue Jul 23, 2019 12:07 pm

I called them last Thursday asking for a quote for the twin corner bow cushions for my 86 18' Outrage. I then e-mailed them Friday requesting the same. I received an e-mail yesterday morning stating she was sorry and would have a quote for me that afternoon. I still have not heard crap. Is this their MO? If it takes 5 days to get a quote, how long until my cushions show up....2021? This is not the way to run a company, especially for something ordinary as my request. It's not like I asked them to reupholster the entire inside of an old Whaler 31 quote.

I guess I'm going with Specialty despite their reviews on their quality VS Anderson.

Nick -

Take a breath.

Anderson's is not a large operation and do low volume, high quality work. Tena, Dave and the crew may have a big order, time off, whatever.

Lois was not fastest either. She was good though.

If you want cheap and fast, go ahead and call Specialty but do not come back and complain in a year when the staples rust and the stitching starts to fail.

Thanks Phil....I do get a bit testy sometimes.

Got a reply this morning. Good price on the bow cushion but the side cushions are double what specialty charges which is not in the budget.

Nick -

It is understandable.

Today I went to a local marine store (in KY) to look for a replacement PFD to take on my trip to see Henry, aka The Yiddil this weekend. Oh my. The selection was horrible. Barely any floatation, horrible patterns and dark colors (its 90+ all summer). I would not let anybody on my boat with the (deleted) they were selling.

$250 for each side cushion but only $290 for the big bow cushion. I can't see $500 for 2 small cushions I am basically going to step on. I might just remove the old cushions and have the non skid. the wife liked them but who in reality is going to sit on a 5" wide cushion?

You might want to bring those cushions to a local marine upholstery shop. I was in the same situation, not wanting to spend $280 ea for rear seat cushions that I walk on. Local shop did them for $100 ea and they are prefect.

I ordered them from specialty for $265/pr as I needed a new bow hatch for my 13' anyway. We'll see about their quality.

Specialty replaced all of my upholstery for a 2005 180 Dauntless, I had to have the bow cushion replaced and the back cushion on the Helm station, they did replace them no delay. So, you may think they are not the highest quality, but be sure you understand they back their work and products.

One reason for buying a Boston Whaler boat is the quality of the construction and the materials used. Yes, good stuff usually costs more although it's possible to pay more for lesser quality. I try to keep our boats as much original as possible.

Our new 1999 Dauntless 16 was equipped with a very poor quality rear quarter seat backrest cushion. It had several staples installed randomly all over the cushion backing and it didn't fit well. It was replaced under warranty. Since then we have never had any kind of cushion problems with either the Dauntless or our present 190 Montauk. We find it is worth the trouble to remove the cushions after virtually every use and to frequently treat the vinyl with 303 Preservative. It requires an extra five minutes or so to remove or reinstall the cushions.

I received the cushions and hatch Saturday from Specialty. The finish work on the hatch is impeccable. I will obviously keep everyone informed as to how it holds up over time. Cushions look great as well. Very well made but again will keep everyone posted on duration of longevity due to quality, etc.
