I recently purchased this 1974 Montauk 16 with a 1989 Johnson 70-HP outboard engine.
I am new to the Boston Whaler scene. The fiberglass has some wear and tear and there is some crazing around the edges but there is no significant damage. The hull bottom will definitely need to be heavily cleaned and patched up to bring it back to life. A new rub rail will also be necessary.
I plan to use TotalBoat products to do the remodel.
Any information or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Also, we are located in Annapolis, MD and if there are any reliable shops near by that would also be helpful. Thanks.

Re: 1974 MONTAUK 16
Restore the gel coat finish instead of painting, if possible.
Is the boat gel coat just dirty?
Or is it full of bad repairs and huge wear spots.

Re: 1974 MONTAUK 16
There is not a lot left of the gel coat layer.
If low budget you can roll and tip it yourself with paint. Friend did his and it looks great.

Thanks. I think my plan will be to first refurbish the center console and seat with products by TotalBoat, using the Blu-Glo White color, and see how these two sections turn out. If I'm happy then I can move on to the remainder of the boat.

For those you might want to try compounding them unless a lot of holes or chips. Interior is called desert tan, see if you can find a match unless you want to do it white.
