Source of Plans for RPS. Using Hair Dryer to Dry Foam

Postby heatxcape » Sat Feb 08, 2020 9:31 pm

i just picked up a [1981] SPORT 17 that has one pedestal seat. I would like to replace that with a reversible pilot seat or RPS.

I see mentions of plans to build a RPS seat, but cant seem to put my finger on the plans themselves.

Give me a link to plans for building a reversible pilot seat that will fit my 17.

Help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

This boat has about 50 screw holes in the hull. Can I use a hair drier on low heat to dry the foam?

There are plans for the RPS back, the other pieces are available from the various vendors.

RPS - http://www.whalercentral.com/downloads.php?cat_id=13&download_id=107
Seat cushion - Andersons' http://www.amfg.us
Swing Arms - Martin Marine Design http://www.martinmarinedesign.com
Legs - Nauset carries a new version, not original but similar. https://www.nausetmarine.com/shop/rps-z-legs-2/

The RPS handles are a Perko part. The rod holders are available from Tom Clark.

A sport would not have a pedestal seat and a sport would not be drivable with a RPS as you would be sitting way to high. A sport has a wood interior that sits very low to the deck.
On my 24th Whaler. Currently in the stable: 86 18' Outrage, 81 13' Sport(original owner), 87 11' Sport, 69 Squall(for sale cheap).

Hi biggie. Thanks for insight

On this 1981 SPORT 17 many changes have occurred over the last 39 years. This one has a much newer CC and pedestal seats.

There are many screw holes for the benches, but no wood to be found with our purchase.

I just got a center console. Thanks to WhalerRon, I have RPS legs for a seat change.

All [in] all my boat is a very solid boat that my son and I can fix up to enjoy.

Therefore you have a 1981 17' Custom. You can build your own or you can source it out from companies like specialty who sell all the parts to do so. This all depends on your budget.
