1996 Outrage 24 Toilet and Bracket

Postby moabelite » Wed Apr 22, 2020 8:56 pm

Q1: What was the make and model of the OEM toilet in a 1996 OUTRAGE 24?

Backstory: a 1996 OUTRAGE 24 that I currently have under contract includes what appears to be a bracket for a toilet in the center console. It does NOT however include the toilet itself. See below.

To locate a replacement toilet that will work without having to remove and reinstall a bracket would be ideal.

Take a look at this diagram from Whaler.com for the Outrage 24. It clearly shows the track (#46)

There is an error on the drawing's parts list. While the potty is labled #53, it is actually item 44, described as:

Head, Portable Sani Potty, GRY

PHIL--many thanks for the pointer to the drawing and quick reply.

There may be more involved in replacing the missing toilet than just ordering one off the shelf. If my interpretation is correct it looks like the Sani-Potti is the easy part but the base assembly to attach to the track will be more difficult. The quest continues.

There is a base which actually slides back and forth on that track and then the [Sani-potty] mounts to the base. Are you sure you don't already have the base? [The base] slides. Figure 1 looks like the base is there.

I have the base on the slide in my 1995 24' Outrage. I have never messed with it, and do not have intentions of adding a porta-potty any time soon. If I can take pictures I can email them to you.

The lighting is a bit dim in Figure 1, but something similar to a base appears to be on the track and moved to the far left.

Thanks so much to everyone. I don't have access to the boat which is in Canada and I'm in Michigan.

I can see now what is being referenced. I will take a look when I am next aboard.

ACASSIDY--any photos from your rig would be exceptionally helpful.

Thanks again to all.

Let us know if you eventually buy the boat under discussion, and you discover the sliding base plate was actually still in place, and you discover the only element of the marine toilet that was missing was the marine toilet itself.

[Deleted two sidebar discussions; one on how often very young children need to use a head while aboard a boat that has a head, and a second on the use of "blue magic water", some unspecified product recommended to be used in a marine toilet.--jimh]

Happy to confirm that the boat is in my driveway and getting a good going over. Also happy to confirm that, as the group suggested, the bracket for the head is in place and ready to receive a new porta potti.

I am sure you are very pleased to finally get possession of the new boat, and to find the cabin hardware for the approved marine sanitation device was intact. And that is a lot of boat on a trailer in the driveway. I hope you cAn get it back in the water soon and enjoy it more.

Did you resolve the OEM brand that was probably removed?

After a shorter 2020 boating season than anticipated (but very good nonetheless) I finally had the chance to install the new porta-potti that I purchase from West Marine late this 2020 summer. The porta-potti I ordered and installed is the THETFORD Porta Potti® 135 Portable Marine Head, model 7959826 and manufacturer number 92861.

I was pleased to see that the THETFORD Porta Potti fits perfectly on the OEM bracket on the 1996 OUTRAGE 24 boat, both in the stowed and operational positions.

The existing brackets also function reasonably well, which leads me to believe that this Thetford Porta Potti may be the same model originally included with the 1996 OUTRAGE 24. I may yet choose to replace the mounting hardware for improved stability.

The installation looks nice. Have you put the PortaPotti to the test yet?

Not yet, Jim. She's tucked into the barn for the winter. I am sure the kids will test thoroughly next season.

I remember the joys of using a porta pottie aboard our SeaRay Sundancer is the 1970s and 1980s. I'm sure they are much improved several decades later. Finding a marina with a functioning pump out was also fun. Once the thing was full it was really fun.

I have, for the years following that experience, come to depend upon vastly simpler methods. Buckets of a couple of different sizes serve well.

Butch--thanks for the sage advice.

I am hoping that the porta-potti will be a destination of last resort--head to the woods first, kids.
