Frequently Asked Question: Repair of Water Ingress in Unibond Hull

Postby Brownbearyellowbear » Sat Jun 13, 2020 9:51 am

Due to the mishandling by a boatyard, a c.1960 16-foot hull sustained significant damage that allowed water to get into the foam core

What repairs must be done to make the hull seaworthy?

Will the repairs be worth their cost?

What boat dealer or shop between Maine and Massachusetts is the best for repair of water damage to a Unibond hull?

This hull must be restored to be a show stopper. Thank you.

The most accurate method to determine the quantity of water and moisture in a Boston Whaler hull is to have the hull weighed.

Any work done before this task is superfluous.

Moisture meters are worthless on a Boston Whaler.

It is impossible to know what must be done to make the hull seaworthy and to know how much repairs will cost and to know if the repair was worth its cost because no reader has any idea of what damage has occurred nor the value of the boat to its owner.

NAUSET MARINE in Massachusetts has been a Boston Whaler dealer since day-one. If you bring the boat to them you may be able to get an estimate of their cost to perform repairs to restore the boat to "show stopper" condition.
