1999 Dauntless 14 fuel tank leak

Postby AndrewJaxFL » Mon Jul 06, 2020 2:57 pm

I have a 1999 Dauntless 14 and am looking for advice to repair a leak where a sending unit goes into the tank.

I assume tank is original but not sure; it is plastic

I have tried new gaskets and permatex gasket sealant.

Any advice would be great.

Non-metal fuel tanks are often made with a plastic that will be difficult for most adhesives to bond to. Fittings are usually held in place by compression.

Gasoline is a very good solvent. Any sealer must be impervious to gasoline and blended ethanol gasoline fuels, and be able to get adhesion to the tank material.

Contact the tank manufacturer for advice.

A new fuel tank may be the best solution. Any repair may create risk.
