Revenge Conversion

Postby fina » Mon Jul 13, 2020 4:26 pm

I have my eye on a Revenge 22 with Whaler Drive and twins. I'd like to convert it to a center console. Is there any detail about that sort of thing out there?

Bad idea. Let someone who wants a cuddy cabin boat buy it.

Or buy it and find out how great the REVENGE is compared to an open boat.

Sorry Bill, another recommendation to find a different candidate.

There have been a handful of conversions of cabin or cuddy models to a center console. They were not pretty to see or easy to do. Most owners admitted the work required was far more than expected. The lack of OEM hatch covers necessitated significant expense in custom fabrication.

The Cuddy does not seem to be too bad and it has a console, rps, etc. Just buying the console, windshield, doors, etc is not cheap and makes converting a poor choice.

"can certainly fabricate hatches simply"

If that is true, you would have a few customers lined up for a set. There are quite a few and you would need to make a mold off somebody's as the revenge comes with wood hatches. The non-skid would be the hard part.

[Please contact Phil directly with your questions that are specifically for him regarding how to make contact with persons who are not participating in the discussion. I think you may be underestimating the number and variety of hatch covers needed to be made.

I have not fabricated any hatches myself, but after seeing how Boston Whaler makes them at their factory, I would never characterize the process as “simple.”

I encourage you to very closely inspect in-person a REVENGE boat to appreciate all the difference in the construction that would have to be undone, repaired, or replaced with new parts so that the boat would be ready to be fitted out as a center console.

Parts of the originally molded Unibond hull are in a REVENGE cut out and discarded in order to make a step into the cabin in the companionway. Restoring that missing part of the hull is perhaps something you have not considered.

I think the several participants in this discussion have all commented against the conversion.

These classic Revenges are getting older and supplies dwindling. It would be a shame to lose an invaluable specimen to a poorly executed conversion. There are plenty of used center consoles available.
