Loose center console

Postby RabAye » Thu Oct 29, 2020 7:02 pm

I have a 1985 Montauk, and the center console is now rocking back slightly under power indicating it is dis-attached at the front. I cannot see where the attachment has failed and need to fix it before going out in other than light seas. Thanks.

Remove the teak trim strips to expose the screws into the console and the deck.

Rock the console to see which is loose.

If the screws into the deck are loose, remove all deck screws, shift console, tape off deck area, squirt in Gorilla Glue (it expands), let cure, trim excess and then re-tap and insert screws.

If screws into console is loose replace screw with stainless bolts and add narrow and wide washer on underside of console to spread load.

Reposition console, reinsert screws, reinstall teak trim strips.

Okay, seems clear. I see that under the teak strips is a metal L strip. So am I correct that what I will find under the teak strip is flat head screws through the metal strip into the deck? It is definitely that connection which is lacking, not the one into the console.

Thanks, Phil
