1992 Outrage 17 Stern Seats

Postby jay18 » Fri Dec 18, 2020 10:23 pm

How are the small stern quarter seats attached on a 17 Outrage?

The small stern quarter seats on my 17 OUTRAGE are in need of replacing. I believe mine are not OEM, but might have came from Specialty Marine.

What is a good source for the vinyl material used in the small stern quarter seats of a 17 OUTRAGE?

[Moderator's note: the initial topic specified a 17" long boat. The seat location was changed to stern quarter from "rear corner."]

The original method for attaching the rear quarter seats included a shock cord and three eyes--far from a good method for many reasons. [See illustrations below.]

To match the forward console backrest cushion, you will want to call Tena @ Anderson's for replacement cushions. They offer the full seat, not the vinyl.

Yes, they are not inexpensive. They will last a long time.

I made a short video to show the attachment as well as an alternative.

Here are two photos of the hinged method described in the video.

The piano hinge seems like a great idea.

[My OUTRAGE 17 boat has] a bungee-cord [to retain the seat cushions].

I want to order some new seats. The aftermarket ones were not quite what I was hoping for.

[Who is a] good source for complete aftermarket seats?

[Who is a good source for] vinyl for a re-upholstery?

You missed my post on replacements. Look up a few posts and read viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6069&p=35544#p35540.

Phil- Thank you.

I left a message with Tena. They look like the right people [for sourcing upholstered seats for a Boston Whaler boat]

I imagine this pattern of vinyl is hard to source--if its even still made at all.

JAY18--I do not believe you have mentioned the pattern or color of the vinyl you want to buy. The same vinyl with the same pattern could have been used in many Boston Whaler boats, and may not be unique to a 1992 OUTRAGE 17 stern seat.

What is the pattern and color for the vinyl material you are mentioning that may be hard to source?

OK. Good point. I would describe this vinyl as the typical taupe, faux leather grain with dark brown piping. Once I figure out how to load some pics up here, I will.
Thanks again!

I suspect you have vinyl in Parchment color with the faux leather grain. The brown piping is also common, but I think I have seen black piping, too.
