[I want-to buy/found-where to buy] 7/8-inch OD stainless steel tubing to use as a replacement for a small section of the bowrail of a 1992 17' Outrage.

[Two articles have been combined into one; the original solicited advice about a source; the second announced finding a source, but never revealed the source. The website prefers to collect useful information. The source that was found should be revealed--Moderator.]

Does 7/8-inch OD tubing for bow rails come in a standard wall thickness?

If not, I would think wall thickness is an important factor to consider.

Although no advice was solicited regarding inserting a short piece of tubing into an existing bow railing, the best method to join tubular sections is to use another tube of smaller diameter that makes a very close fit inside the original tube.

Tubing is often made with a wall thickness of 0.058-inch. Tubing of 0.058-inch wall with with an OD of 0.875-inch will be able to fit over a smaller tube with an OD of 0.750-inch. Tubes that fit in this manner are said to be telescoping.

Repairs made in this manner will result in a very strong joint between the new tube segment and the existing tubing, and the use of two pieces of tube will add strength.
