2001 Dauntless 160 Washdown Pump

Postby EmeraldCityDauntless » Mon Sep 18, 2023 10:22 pm

Give me advice and recommendations for installing a washdown pump in a 2001 160 DAUNTLESS.

I’m planning on putting pump in the bilge on the raised area (the shelf area under the seats) on either side of the low point of the bilge and putting the through hull a foot or so forward of the bilge pump.

Q1: how does my plan sound?

I was thinking about some sort of recessed fitting on the aft bulkhead below the one of the rear seats. I need to make sure there is a power switch somewhere, too. I have not seen one on a 2001 160 DAUNTLESS so want to get some ideas

Thanks,
Gerald

I believe you may be ill advised to install a wash down pump in your 160. Bilge space is so limited as to make the project pretty difficult to install a seldom needed device. Adding another through hull fitting and valve below the waterline will add to potential maintenance concerns later in your boat's life. A bucket full of water from alongside could be all you need.

I advise all Whaler owners to avoid at all costs cutting another drain or hole in the hull, especially below the waterline.

A bucket works.
