2017 170 MONTAUK Unusual Transom Saver

Give me advice on installation of a transom saver mechanism to support the engine on my 2017 170 MONTAUK. Am I correctly installing the transom saver as seen below in Figure 1?

The transom-saver only has about 4.5-inches of clearance from elbow of transom saver to the road. That seems wrong--too close to road--and with a good bounce it will bottom out.

This trailer came from previous owner with this transom saver, and there is a connector for it on the trailer. It appears the transom saver can be configured multiple ways by moving the bolts around. I can't seem to get it any better than seen above.

I would not use that as it is exacerbating the possibility of striking the ground at a curb cut or grade change.

A 2x4 block of wood between the bracket and the outboard has worked for me for 20 years.

Would love to see a picture of the 2x4 in action. I can't quite envision the connections.
