1990 Outrage 21, Norwegian

Postby Papelione » Wed May 22, 2024 9:34 am

Hi Whalers

First entry here:=)

A little introduction: 3 years ago i bought my fist BW, a 1990 21" Outrage hull, with a 300 HP Mercury Verado from 2008.
Boat and engine was in preatty good shape, and the first two seasons have not been giving me any problems.

This year I was considering cleaning up the console, there are some minor cosmetic problems, and I would like some input to how
I could make this clean and original`ish looking.

Refering to attached picture.

A: To the right of the two screens the are 5-6 holes in 3 of those old usb ports and 2 that are plugged with marien sealant,
I like the setup with the screens, but was thinking of getting a used "new" glovebox and put the screens inn, cant seam to find them online though, any ideas?

B: The instruments for the outboard doesnt longer function, and I am preatty happy with the screens for engine control.
My idea was to unplugg the displays and find a White or black panel, could the plexi glass ones fra boat outfitters be something, Arctic white for instance?

C: The cupholder are brooken and falls of if I open them, where to get new ones?

D: Chrome paint/folie are crumpeling on the outboard control, hoping to get new chrome cover fra my local dealer.

E: Back plate for the buttons are scratch and paint is pealing, a used backplate would be ideal, where to get one.

Love my BW and would like to keep it sharp:=)

Best regards

Christian

Welcome Christian.

I think your model is a bit younger. The Outrage 21 was produced from 1993-1998. Look at the last 2 digits of the HIN plate on the upper right outside corner of the transom.

I do know a few owners in Norway and have spent a fair bit of time helping them over the years with their maintenance and restoration work.
The challenge is finding a vendor in Scandinavia or the EU that sell the right parts. Almost all the parts are available in America but the shipping cost and Import fee/VAT will be high.

Where are you located?

Item A: This is a glovebox (also called electronics box) that has been modified by the importer of former owner to flush mount the installation of the MFDs. The original box was open and had a clear plexiglass door that hinged open.

You can remove the back panel and add a locking door to return it to the storage box.

B) Yes, many owners remove the gauge panels and install the MDF.

I made new panels with ~6.35 mm thick starboard (HDPE) myself.
Something like this:

If they will not fit there, cosider installing them on brackets that sit on top of the console. You should be able to find the mounting brackets on the MFD manufacturer website if you use the model # on the back of the unit.

C) Those cupholder do not hold up over the years. Sun exposure makes the plastic brittle and they break.

Amazon - UK

I replaced mine (same as yours) with cupholders that attach to the rail. Still like them after 2 seasons.

d) Good idea

e) Sand the back plate, wipe off. Tape off the area around the panel and each switch and use matte (no shine) spray paint.

You can get new switch covers that have the label on the switch from this company in America. I have used them many times.

Hope this helps.
