2006 Outrage 240

Postby aftrhours » Mon Dec 05, 2016 5:28 pm

I am looking at a very good deal on a [2006 240] Outrage with a single [VERADO] 250. My boating will be dinner cruises, tooling around offshore and some casual fishing. I doubt that I will carry more that 75-gallons fuel. When I say offshore, I mean a mile or two, and that is about it.

Will the 250-HP engine suitable for my boating style?

Thanks--Tom

I assume [the acronym you used] is an abbreviation for Verado. A 250-HP Verado should be sufficient power for the activities you listed. I once had a MUCH heavier 240 SeaRay with 260-HP stern drive and the power was just fine for that boat.

By the way, offshore (to me) means you can't see the shore anymore.

"[V]ery good deal" is probably the significant factor as your usage description doesn't align to the Outrage 240 as well as it does align to the Vantage line. Outrage 240 is for offshore, more hard-core fishing. It will be great for when the conditions become rough in that 1-2 miles offshore you'll be taking it. And if you decide later that you want to take it farther than originally anticipated, you'll have the capability. However, the boat is less a creature-comfort configuration and more for hard-core fishing. Vantage still has the deep-V-offshore-capable hull but with a more ergonomic, family-friendly cockpit design. I liken this to buying a Steiner Commander-V with Compass binoculars when all you use them for is viewing concert performances. Great for those couple of times when needing their full capabilities but heavy to hold-up at concerts and drag them around. Make sure the configuration works for most of the time, not the exception. However, if you don't want to spend a lot, and this literally falls to you from out of the sky at a really great deal (and it is in good condition), you always have resale value if you decide to get something else.

Boston Whaler has the minimum power listed at 225-HP, and so the 250 Verado will be sufficient power and likely produce a top speed of approximately 42-MPH.
