Hi all. I know [the selection of a propeller, engine mounting height, and speed on Boston Whaler classic MONTAUK 17 boats] is a heavily discussed topic, but I just purchased a classic Montauk 17 with a F70 on the back. The engine is currently mounted using the second hole from the top. I am unsure of the current propeller on the engine, or what its current speeds are, as I have not yet picked up the boat.

Is there anyone with the same hull and engine who can share the speed, propeller, and mounting specs with me, so I can get the most out of my new boat from day-one?

Tons of information across many forums, I know, but I’m hoping to get some more straightforward info on here. Thank you.

I suspect the engine is mounted "one-hole-up," but please confirm that.

I took the boat out yesterday for the first time, I was a little disappointed in the performance as with just one person WOT was 5200 RPM producing 27 MPH. This is leading me to believe that I need a different propeller as well as raising the motor. The motor is currently mounted "one hole up" and I am thinking of moving it the three holes. Also my propeller, I am not sure what prop is on there now as the only writings on it say "K14"

The prop you have is not appropriate.

You need to remove the cotter pin and prop nut and pull off the prop and look on the inside of the hub for a part #.

The K 14 could be a Yamaha 14" aluminum pitch prop for the intermediate gearcase. Is it aluminum, stainless or painted white or black.

How was speed measured?

Before you go forward, verify the engine height per Jim's comment above.

To have optimum performance your prop should allow you to reach 6200 rpm at WOT with a light load.

By "F70" do you mean Suzuki DF70?
