Yamaha F300 35-inch Shaft Length Now Available

Postby conch » Tue Nov 12, 2019 9:22 am

Yamaha is offering the F300 with a 35-inch shaft length in their F300 with electronic shifting. The others will probably be close behind.

I wonder if it is just the 300 and why not another other like the 425 hp Yamaha

The Yamaha site indicates the 425 XTO is also available in 35 in.

It was only a matter of time. The outboard powered boats just keep getting bigger and bigger with more boat in the water and high gunwales, so when on plane, you need a much longer shaft to clear the keel. I'm wondering if this is targeting twins/quads or boats powered by 3 or 5 motors.

The 35-inch shaft may be needed for the center engine in a triple-engine rig on V-hull boats.

I do not see any application of an outboard engine with a 35-inch shaft length on any classic Boston Whaler boat, unless the boat transom has been modified by eliminating the transom notch.
