I got my Outrage 18 from the mechanic after he installed a Yamaha 150 HPDI. I am very pleased with the performance, especially [the reduction in] fuel consumption compared to the former Mercury 150-HP carbureted engine. The Yamaha 150 HPDI is 77-lbs heavier than the old engine, so looks like a battery relocation is next.

A fellow local to me, Tony in Omena Bay, has an OUTRAGE 18 with a Yamaha 150-HP HPDI engine. I looks like a very good combination. I am sure you will be very pleased with the performance. At 150-HP you have the OUTRAGE 18 at its maximum rated power.

A year ago, I put a [different 150-HP engine, a Yamaha] F150 on my 18-footer. It jumps onto plane in a heartbeat and the peace of mind that accompanies a new engine is well worth the cost.

I have two of the HPDI 150 engines. Advice: make sure you have a boat-mounted fuel-water separator that is maintained regularly. The HPDI fuel system is very sensitive to contamination.

Thank you for the fuel-water separator suggestion. I do have one in place, especially after mechanic told horror stories of water getting into injectors and the damage it can cause. I have witnessed too many people run water into engines, which could have been prevented with a separator.
