Tank Level Sender Calibration

Postby mkelly » Sat Jul 02, 2016 7:03 pm

A new tank level sender was installed in a fuel tank and 30-gallons of fuel were added to the tank. [Some unidentifed fuel tank level gauge] read 3/4-FULL, which was wrong. I'm guessing there is some [method for] calibration [of the fuel tank level sender] for establishing [a correlation between fuel tank level sender signal and actual fuel tank level].

You will have to give us more information on the FUEL TANK LEVEL GAUGE you actually have. Depending on what sort of gauge you have, your speculation may or may not be correct that there exists some sort of method of calibrating the gauge to the signal from the fuel tank level sender .

What sort of FUEL TANK LEVEL SENDER was installed? Give us more information on the sender. Some sometimes the tank level sender has its own calibration procedure as part of the the sender itself.

This thread cannot really go further until we get the details about the gauge and sender you are using and want to discuss.

I believe the first step to calibrate a fuel tank sender is to either have the boat in the water or if on a trailer the tongue jack adjusted so the actual waterline is level and the lateral (port and starboard) attitude is also level. A few pieces of scrap lumber, a jack and a level may be needed for the lateral leveling adjustment.
