Buy New Lead-Acid or AGM Battery

I noticed yesterday the [outboard engine on the] boat was cranking slowly after a pounding one-hour ride in the salt. I think I'm just going to replace the marine battery I have in it now (with a 2/2012 purchase date) with an AGM. [Reply with your] thoughts or opinions. Thanks

Do you think that yesterday's pounding ride damaged the battery? Whatever the case, your battery was near the end of its expected life. Unless an AGM battery has a much longer lifespan, the other advantages aren't important enough to me to justify the much higher price. (Coincidentally, I just replaced my five-and-a-half-year-old conventional battery yesterday with the same exact model.)

It was in the back of my mind. I figured it was near the end of its time.

I ended up buying a NAPA marine fella for $110.

I am a bit confused by your question of "Lead Acid or AGM". Batteries using absorbed glass mat construction are lead-acid batteries. I think you really want to ask for advice regarding whether to use a flooded-cell vented battery or a sealed valve-regulated absorbed glass mat battery. They are both lead-acid batteries.

Since you seem to have already made a decision, I think it is too late for advice. What did you get?

I also purchased a NAPA battery (BAT 8304 for $120), since the previous one gave good service.
