E-TEC NMEA 2000 Data for Simrad GO7

Postby Ducktown » Sat Jul 08, 2017 4:40 pm

I've recently installed a Simrad GO7 XSE in my boat (love it) and networked it to my 2009 E-TEC 90 HP motor. Using the GO7's standard "Instrument" display, I've been able to configure the unit to display RPM, Temperature, Alternator, Battery, and Load. I have been unable to get Engine Trim and Engine Hours, which Evinrude documentation says is available NMEA 2000 output data for a 2009 90 HP E-TEC.

Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestions on how to configure my GO7 to read this info?

Data about engine trim is available from the NMEA-2000 network only on E-TEC V4 and V6 engines.

See:

I am not sure about engine hour data-- the EMM should be sending it, but can your Simrad GO7 display it?

Jim - Thanks. Great article. Couldn't have learned about the [lack of TRIM data in the three-cylinder engine] anywhere else. I'm going to do a deeper dive with Simrad to see if I can find how to display, or at least view engine hours.

According to literature from Lowrance, an HDS can show engine hours. I would expect that a Simrad GO7 ought to be able to perform that function, too. I don't see it explicitly mentioned in the Simrad literature I have found. Usually there is a page of engine data pre-programmed. And usually you can modify the page to change what data is shown. There is a TRIP LOG function that will log engine running time during a trip, but I think you want to see total engine hours from the engine. Let us know if you find that function on the GO7.

After checking with Simrad over the winter and launching for the 2018 season I confirmed that total engine hours can be found in the Trip Intel area of the GO7.

Thank you for the follow-up report on the outcome of your project to display engine data from an E-TEC engine on a Simrad GO7 display.
