The prevalence of cyber warfare and weakness of GPS to jamming has prompted the Government to reconsider the return of LORAN for redundancy.

In the USA, the conversion to eLORAN was about 80-percent complete--then Obama was elected. For some unexplained reason, the Obama administration went on a Jihad against eLORAN, and began blowing up--literally--the LORAN sites. Maybe clearer thinking is now occurring.

There are many prior discussions on this topic; see

For our national security a land based electronic navigation system in North America is a must. In a perfect world a patch for our current MFDs would allow them to display Loran information. I believe an antenna would be necessary.

You won't need much change--if any--to a electronic chart plotter to use position data from eLORAN. You would just need a modern LORAN receiver. The receiver will be much more expensive than a GNSS receiver due to very low production. GNSS receiver chips are made in the billions of units and now cost a few dollars. An eLORAN receiver won't have the economy of scale in its production and will cost a thousand dollars or more.
