I have the older Raymarine S-1000 Autopilot which is working perfectly and uses the older NMEA-0183 system which is connected to my Standard Horizon C 300 GPS which is also NMEA-0183.
I want to upgrade my chart plotter with a Garmin Echo 94 SV which is NMEA-2000. What do I need to hook up the older autopilot NMEA-0183 to the new NMEA-2000 Garmin?
I have read that there are converters out there, but some have to be programmed to the specific device.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Fred

Re: Garmin Echo 94SV to NMEA-0183 Autopilot
Are you certain that the Garmin EchoMap 94 does not have NMEA-0183?
I believe the EchoMap 90 series has NMEA-0183. See

Re: Garmin Echo 94 SV to NMEA-0183 Autopilot
Jim, I am not sure about this device having [NMEA-1083], as I have installed a [NMEA-2000 network] on my boat I am purchasing this unit to make the most of my system including the gauge display.
I will investigate a little more to ck out if this Garmin has [NMEA-0183].
Thks,
Fred

Garmin seems to think the EchoMap 90 series has NMEA-0183.
For help in making NMEA-0183 connections, see my article

Re: Garmin Echo 94 SV to NMEA-0183 Autopilot
Jim
I just rcvd my Garmin EchoMAP Plus 94 SV. You were correct that is has both NMEA 0183 and Nmea 2000. I will have to connect the NMEA 0183 to my Raymarine Autopilot S-1000. The EchoMAP has the N-83 connections bundled together with the power plug which contains the black wire for ground and the red for power. The N-83 connections are Brown for Rx (in) and Blue for Tx (out). Besides the Autopilot I also have an older Standard Horizon VHF which is N-0183 also.
My question is if my current N-2000 cables are connected to power already do I still have to connect my EchoMAP to a power source also? I kind of understand from what I read that only one power source is needed. I just want to be sure so as not to screw up this new GPS.
Thks........

Network power for a node on the network is limited. Most devices that have any sort of display, controls, interfaces, and so on will need to be powered. Generally if a device has power connections, it needs to be powered by those connections.
