Used 7-inch Chartplotter with NMEA-2000 $200 range

Postby jcush87 » Thu Jan 02, 2020 4:56 pm

I want to buy a NMEA-2000 7-inch chart plotter, SONAR, and multifunction display for about $200 that is compatible with a Lowrance 83-kHz/200-kHz transducer that can show E-TEC engine data.

Offer suggestions. Thanks for the help.

Move up to a used HDS-7.

I have been looking at the HDS-7 and ELITE 7.

I ended up finding an HDS7 Gen 1 for $120 locally. Functionally good, a bit rough cosmetically, but for that price, I don't mind. The HDS7 I have seems pretty quick, but I don't think there is much saved to the memory, and I didn't load my [charts] yet, but I hope [the quickness] will be fine as [the charts] are the old, simple charts.

I unfortunately realized that my troubleshooting was inadequate. The new unit had the same problem when installed. It boiled down to corrosion on the fuse holder that was allowing a resting voltage through (showing the unit should have power) but when there was a current draw, the voltage dropped and there wasn't enough power to support the unit. I discovered this by testing the voltage at the fuse holder when I tried to power on. I even changed to a backup fuse prior to this and the concern persisted.
