Battery Box Strap

Postby wlagarde » Tue Oct 27, 2015 6:01 pm

Dear Group -

I contacted AGM Containers about ordering some Kevlok battery hold down straps [see illustration below]. [AGM Containers are the OEM of the very nice battery hold down straps used on classic Boston Whaler boats for years.--jimh]

I want two of them, one to use and one as a spare. There is a minimum order of 10 for $250.

I am considering purchasing 10 and selling rest to others in the group, but I first wanted to see how many of you have interest. At cost plus shipping via USPS Priority Mail the KEVLOK Battery Hold Down Straps would be about $31 each delivered.

Bill

I believe that the KEVLOK battery hold-down straps used on classic Boston Whaler boats were custom assemblies made from components manufactured by AGM CONTAINERS. AGM CONTAINERS has a website that shows their custom assemblies:

http://www.agmcontainer.com/tie_downs/customassemblies

Can you give the full part number for the battery strap you are thinking about buying from them?

Here is a view of a c.1987 Boston Whaler boat with the usual Desert Tan battery box and the usual Kevlok hold down strap:

Here is AGM's response to my inquiry:

Hello Bill,

We are confirming stock of one of the components this afternoon, but assuming we have enough stock you will be able to purchase 10EA (i.e., individual straps) to meet the $250 minimum order requirement.

For your reference, the part number in the thread linked below is obsolete. The new part number is CT05608. The strap will be the same as the one linked below, but the RC6450-BK referenced a two-pack in commercial packaging and the CT05608 is a single strap less commercial packaging,

Regards,

Blake Koomar | Sales Manager | AGM Container Controls, Inc. | bkoomar@agmcontainer.com | t: 520.881.2130 ext 2106

Well I just finished speaking with Sue at Twin Cities Marine and the original strap is still available. Current Price is $57.50 + shipping. So it looks like ordering from AGM will be worth the effort if there is significant interest (i.e I can get 10 straps committed).

Jimh - Thanks for adding the picture.

Total commitments are now at 8 straps (2 each for me, Jed Stahle, jimd, and sraab928) so we are very close. I'm waiting on confirmation from AGM they have the parts to proceed with fabrication. Also, if you commit to more than one strap the shipping will remain $5.99 as I will be using a USPS small flat rate box for each shipment.

I will Take (2) straps also. I researched this 2 years ago and got the same answer!! Thanks for getting this done as the alternative straps are garbage. I wn a 1995 Outrage 19’8” and have original straps in my boat still working great but probably time to replace!

Total commitments are now at 10 straps (2 each for me, Jed Stahle, jimd, sraab928 and Artemus198) so collectively we meet the minimum order. I'm waiting on confirmation from AGM they have the parts and once confirmed I will proceed with the order.

If there are additional group members interested let me know as I will increase the order beyond 10 which may bring price down further.

I heard from AGM today. They have enough stock parts to fabricate 10 straps. I had them quote a price for more than 10 straps. Because of minimum order requirements of their parts suppliers it will significantly raise the cost per strap to go over 10 straps so I capped the order at 10 straps. Should ship in 2 weeks. Unfortunately, we are short 7 straps. I plan to keep 1 strap instead of two as originally intended. Will make the remaining 9 straps available to the group in the order requested below:

wlagarde (1)
Jed Stahle (2)
jimd (2)
sraab928 (2)
artemus198 (2)
fno (2) (depending upon availability)
protagy311 (3)
wardla (1)
jhomeister (1) (depending upon availability)
finnegan (2)
creeker2 (1) (depending upon availability)

If you would be happy with fewer straps than you initially requested let me know (no pressure) and I will make them available to others on the list above.

Confirmed orders are in bold. Will be in touch with group once I receive the order from AGM and I confirm the straps are made correctly.

Thank you to those who have inquired about how to send payment. I prefer to receive payments via PayPal but I will also accept a personal check. Let's hold on payments for now. AGM will ship the straps to me on 11/30. Once I receive them and confirm the order is correct I will be back in touch with the group to begin accepting payments and filling orders.

Dear group - I wanted to let everyone know that all straps are spoken for. Thank you for everyone's interest. I wish AGM had more stock on hand which would have facilitated a bigger group buy. While the price per strap is higher I would encourage any who are in need of a high quality original battery strap to contact Sue at Twin Cities Marine.

Hey Guys,

I know this is an old thread, but I have a couple of these posted on ebay.

If they sell fast, I might be able to dig up some more.

Well, those sold fast.

I will see what I can do to get some more.

I am the IT manager for AGM. We, in the IT and marketing departments, have known about this thread for quite some time now.

Last week, our plant manager gave away pallets of various straps to all of the employees who wanted them. He did this not knowing about the demand for these straps in particular. In addition, our sales manager Blake had no idea these straps existed in the warehouse. He is a good guy, but it was basically just a breakdown in communication.

I can probably barter with other employees who got the battery box straps and post some more on eBay. I will let you all know by the middle of next week.

In addition, if I can sell all of the ones I get, I might be able to make a case to get AGM to make another production run on them and I can just buy them and resell them myself.

I don't know if you all are interested in the rear transom tie downs, but I also have those:

I think that the market for these straps is just about bottomless. You could sell these straps for another ten years. There are many owners of classic Boston Whaler boats who want to replace older straps with these OEM new equivalents.
