2018 150 Montauk

Postby joedag1 » Mon Apr 02, 2018 7:29 pm

In the future will a 90-HP engine be available for a 150 MONTAUK?

I sold my 130 SUPER SPORT after seven trouble-free years, and I am picking up a 2018 150 MONTAUK next week. I was on WHALER.COM and saw a picture of the new 150 [MONTAUK] with a 90-HP engine on the transom. I know the 90-HP was not available two weeks ago--because I would have jumped on it. I'm sure I will be happy with the 60-HP.

I also saw that [picture on the WHALER .COM website]. It seems to be a rendering of the new 2018 150 Montauk with a Mercury 90-HP outboard. I would call Boston Whaler and ask about the 90-HP outboard being an option on the new 2018 150 Montauk. To date you can not choose a 90-HP motor option on the new 2018 150 Montauk, and in the specification section the maximum HP is still rated at 60-HP.

The image (seen above) looks like the engine was PhotoShopped on the transom due to the odd lighting on the engine gear case area.

I downloaded the original image from WHALER.COM, and with some exposure correction it looks much more realistic. You can see reflections of the hull in the cowling. That looks like a real engine on a real boat--or one of the best Photoshop jobs I've seen,

Good advice. Only Boston Whaler can tell you this for certain.

I called Boston Whaler: a 90-HP engine is not an option now and not in the future.

Just looked at the boat you're getting, and I REALLY like it.

It has all the features we'd want. Currently we have a 16' Riviera Fiber Corp with a Merc 2 stroke 50 on the back and it is doing the trick for us. But if we're ever in the market to replace it one day, it'll be this boat.

Congratulations on your new Montauk!

I wish it was an option, or at least could put a 75HP or so on her, because the 60HP is not enough power for such a heavy boat.
Maybe in the future with motor weights going down and HP going up by the time I need to re-power I can get a higher HP motor, but I'll be so old I don't want that performance any longer.

Still love my Montauk 150 with the 60.
