Orange Spots on deck 1972 13-footer

Postby PatSea » Wed May 16, 2018 6:56 am

I have a 1972 13-footer The blue non-skid cockpit deck has developed what appear to be small rust colored spots. I tried to remove them using several cleaners and was finally successful using Bar Keeper’s Friend. The floor looks very nice now.

I'd like to understand what caused these spots. There were a few spots present before I took the boat to Florida this past winter. I'm thinking the salt lwater played a role in creating these spots. Any ideas?

My guess is that someone used steel wool on or around the non-skid deck. The addition of saltwater "enhanced" the visibility of the tiny steel fragments.

That could be Tom. I have not used steel wool in the year that I've owned the boat, but the previous owner may have.

Perhaps the orange material is a mold of some sort.

It could have been insect excrement and Bar Keepers Friend will always do the trick with minimal damage. Rust as mentioned always a possibility.
