15' Super Sport trade or WTB Montauk 17'

Postby mikewillsmith » Tue Jul 10, 2018 10:25 am

Total long shot I know, but anyone looking to trade a 17' Montauk for a 15' Super Sport? Clean fresh water only boat (original gel coat, never bottom painted), 2014 Yamaha 4 stroke 70hp with 52 hours. Hull and all wood are excellent, full set of cushions, large fuel tank and trailer. Looking for a 1990s Montauk (the no wood version). Willing to trade up or down or will buy your 17' outright, depending on what you have.
My 15 is located in Maine, but will travel.

Hi

I'm interested in buying the boat if the price was right and you would consider a sale versus a trade! I'm in North Carolina but would consider meeting halfway!

Cheers,

Robin

I own a 15' SS with a 1988 Evinrude 70hp which runs great but considering it's age I'm concerned about it's reliability. I'm looking at re-powering with a 70hp Yamaha. I would love to know how you like the performance of your boat. Do you know the top speed with one person? Mine is around 35kts but I'm more interested in how it performs with four adults as far as getting on plane and ability to handle the weight without working too hard. The Evinrude is a perfect motor for the boat. This Yamaha is 253lbs if memory serves me the Evinrude is 230lbs. Thanks.

Thanks Robin,
I’m not selling the 15 until after I find a 17.
I wouldn’t want to be boatless. :)

Topped out it is about 38. The boat had a 2 stroke 70 Yamaha when I got it, but it became too hard to find parts so I repowered.
I love how quiet the engine and no smoke or smell and it’s plenty strong but I miss the 2 stroke punch when pulling kids on the tube or kneeboard.
Never had any problems getting on plane with people on board.
If I did it again I’d either go with a 90 4 stroke or an Evinrude 70.
