Appraisal 13 Whaler

Postby PatSea » Fri Nov 02, 2018 8:23 am

I saw an ad for this boat today. He is asking $1300, says motor runs fine. Does the scum line suggest it's waterlogged? What year? I'm guessing it's about a 1974. What are your thoughts on that engine? What is a boat like this worth assuming the engine is ok?

Yes that scum line looks high for a 125 lb motor. The owner may not have a automatic bilge pump causing the boat to sit low after rain. Possibly, you could ask him if you can water test it to see for yourself before you buy it. If it sits higher in the water and the motor runs strong, I think that is a fair price. The 25 Merc is a good motor from my experience.

I just noticed in the pic a green floor. If the boat does not have the original fiberglass floor and the floor of the boat has been modified with plywood or something, I would pass on it.

If you like the boat, engine, and trailer, the price seems quite modest.
