Identify Hull from four-digit number

Postby Chad » Wed Apr 03, 2019 1:58 pm

Just purchased my first [Boston Whaler boat later revealed in a second post to be 16-feet long] The only identifying mark I can find is a white stencil number 3743 in the bow locker. Point me in the right direction please [to be able to identify the boat]. Thanks--Chad

If [the unidentified boat] a 13-foot Boston Whaler, number 3743 is an old one. Numbers 100 through 4499 were made sometime between 1958-1961.
If [the unidentified boat] is a 9-foot Boston Whaler Squall, hull number 03743 is a 1968 model year.

You can figure out the age of your 16-foot hull yourself. Read the FAQ:

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/FAQ/#Q1

Read more at

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/16-17/

The hull was made into many different models.

HINT: a 16-footer with a stencil number in the range 3000 to 3999 would have been made in c.1961-1962.

Do you have a list of SQUALL boats by stencil number and year of production?

If you have this information, can you share this information publicly with us?

Could you reveal the source of that listing? Or did you compile it yourself?

It's from the old Classic Whaler Owners Association newsletter "The Classic Whaler Newsletter".

I would expect that the listing must have originally come from Boston Whaler. Only they would have that sort of information. A fellow had a webpage devoted to the SQUALL. For that reason I never really attempted to collect much information about them. Also the same situation with the HARPOON sailboats; there was a webpage about them, too. All one-design sailboats seem to have their own coterie of enthusiasts.
