DIY ideas for forward facing seats on 210 Outrage

Postby zigzag930 » Sun May 26, 2019 8:29 am

In December I purchased my 2007 Outrage 210. I've completed many upgrades since that time, but one improvement remains.

I'd like to add forward facing backrests to the bow cushion area. Many of the new boats offer these and the wife would love to have them.

Unfortunately the area under the bow cushions on the port/starboard sides is inaccessible and I believe foam filled - so no real way to get inside to add any sort of backing plates.

I have given this project 5 months of thought and still can't devise an acceptable method of accomplishing this project. I'm almost at the "just buy bean-bags" point, but not my preferred solution.

Any Whaler owners out there done this or have any constructive suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Birdsall Marine has some nice back rests that will work.I put one on my 2013 210 Montauk and it works well.

They are expensive but very good quality. When I get to the boat I will post some images of the one I have.

When contemplating installation of anything on the deck or bow floor, remember there are no voids in the hull. It is all foam filled. Any hole in the skin needs to be sealed properly (no adhesives) to prevent water ingress.

Have you considered the boat bean bags?

Yes, I looked at the Birdsall products and they look like something that might work - except I don't know about mounting into fiberglass without some sort of backing plate or thru-bolt. Afraid a few hard waves and they might pull out. I really don't want to 5200 them to the inside of the hull either.

As I mentioned in the OP, I have been considering marine bean bags, but would really prefer a more "factory" look and method of making this work.

Thanks

The seat back I installed on my 210 Montauk is mounted with 8 #12 x 2" self tapping screws on each bracket.Trust me,it's not going anywhere. Behind the vertical wall behind the fish box there is some type of structure beneath the gel coat.

Several option but I opted for side wall installation .Look at Tidewater 280 CC and you will understand. Backrest is flushed when not in use and pulled into position when needed. Google stainless steel folding seat bracket. All you have to do is find 2 white small backrest with hard backing and attach them to that bracket.

I will check to see if these might work. Not sure if the inside of the hull wall is flat or curved in the area of the forward seating, but I'll check tomorrow.

Thanks
