15 Whaler SuperSport Drone Vid

Postby dtmackey » Wed Aug 28, 2019 10:07 am

This summer my son captured roughly 30 minutes of drone footage of our 15' Supersport and edited it down to just under a 2 min vid. Thought I'd share

https://youtu.be/2hELY0-aRwU

Shot with a 4K Mavic Pro.

Very nice motion picture aerial photography.

I love seeing that narrow wake off the classic 15-foot hull running on plane at speed. How fast were you going?

I recently bought a Mavic Pro as well but have not gained the confidence yet to bring it on the boat as they aint cheap to replace if it sinks.
On my 24th Whaler. Currently in the stable: 86 18' Outrage, 81 13' Sport(original owner), 87 11' Sport, 69 Squall(for sale cheap).

Hi Jim,

Most of the river running was done at full throttle with lots of trimming in/out for the straights and corners. On the straights the boat runs best trimmed out as far as possible and hits 43mph. Corners, I tuck the motor in to prevent porpoising and it provides more keel influence, so speed prob drops to 38mph.

It is a very fun easy to launch boat that and I'd venture to say one of the best 15' hulls out there based on weight, ride and capability.

I certainly understand the hesitation on flying over water. He started with a Phantom 3 and picked it up quick, as almost any kid these days with electronics. He quickly surpassed the capability of the Phantom and upgraded. The Mavic Pro is a far better drone.

Re the "4K"--in my professional work we have found that in order to shoot video in 4K resolution very special lenses are needed. A usual high-definition lens cannot be used because its optical quality is not sufficient to stand-up to 4K resolution. Very expensive 4K lenses are needed. I don't think you can really get 4K resolution optics aloft on a small drone.

I'm sure it's no Zeiss lens, but it does seem pretty impressive based on the specs and the vid we've watched on our 4K home TV.

Great video. That boat looks like fun.

ASIDE ON NEW TOPIC: I'm wondering how you manage to sit on those wooden seats without killing your spine? Do they make seat cushions for these boats? My spinal arthritis kills me in my Revenge on a bumpy day.
