APPRAISAL 1973 Nauset Eastern Shore

Postby Wetterau » Mon Aug 10, 2020 2:07 pm

Give me an opinion of a fair price for a 1973 NAUSET with 2002 Mercury 40 ELPTO and TRAILER, a Sunbrella bimini, cockpit cover and cushioned seats.

The cockpit is in good condition. The wood seems solid but needs new veneer and a varnish. Outer hull has some gelcoat chipping and a small dent on the aft starboard side.

The boat was used a couple times each year for the past 18 years, but not in 2020.

The need to sell occurs because of my age. The boat is located on the Bohemia River on upper eastern shore of Maryland.

Was the boat kept on a trailer or left in saltwater?

Prices for older 16/17 models such as a NAUSET vary widely, depending mostly on the boat's condition. Since the boat is 47-years-old, its condition will be a principal factor in the appraised value.

I sent you a note via email regarding pictures. You responded with 15 images and a QuickTime Movie. I selected the three most appropriate images and added them to your initial post.

I would guess the value is in the $4,000 to $5,000 range.
On my 24th Whaler. Currently in the stable: 86 18' Outrage, 81 13' Sport(original owner), 87 11' Sport, 69 Squall(for sale cheap).

ASIDE: the boat shown above is interesting in that it is a 1973 model year, has the old non-smirk hull, and the hull and cockpit appear to be molded in Desert Tan or Outrage Gray.

If the boat is a 1973 it should have a federally required hull identification number (which began in 1972), usually in the form of a metal tag riveted to the outboard face of the transom at the maximum beam. The boat should also have a stencil number. These identification numbers can help determine the manufacturing date and model year of the boat.

The Hull identification number is BWCA 57550373 (located on the outside of the transom on the left side). Not sure what Desert Tan is but I would call my boat Off White. Definately not gray. It is not bright white but maybe that is due to age. The Mercury is a 2002 not 2002. It is a 40 HP two stroke Model 40 ELPTO. Boat spent most of the last 18 years on a trailer from September to June. June to Sept docked on athe Bohemia River, a brackish body of water. No jellyfish, but some years barnacles.
