1977 Montauk Combined Sidelights Lamp Replacement Lightbulb Socket

Postby Landlocked » Mon May 16, 2016 12:10 pm

Has anyone tried replacing the lightbulb socket in the combined sidelight lamp for an older (1977) Montuak with the one sold by Specialty Marine? See

http://www.specialtymarine.com/BOSTON-W ... -p375.html

Also considering the LED bulb shown at

http://www.specialtymarine.com/BOSTON-W ... -p374.html .

I am preparing to make my annual Gulf Coast pilgrimage this coming Saturday., I discovered last night the new socket I installed only a two years ago has corroded badly. Thought I had the housing sealed but saltwater got in, again. If the replacements will work I'd like to give them a try this time. Last time I was lucky enough to find an old OEM replacement but now it's probably either this or one of those cheap flashlight clamp-on lights jjust to get me through the trip.

The original version has a metal tab that screws into the bottom of the light housing after the socket is inserted. This one does not but, Specialty Marine says it is a replacement for [combined sidelight lamps] prior to c.1980. I want to input before ordering. Thanks.

Light socket arrived last night. Does not fit hole in OEM base but given time remaining before my trip and lack of other options I elected to epoxy it on top. Would have been nice if it had fit as promised given price I paid for the light, socket and overnight shipping but I'm happy with the results now that it is installed. LED bulb is much brighter than the original conventional bulb.

Red-neck engineering at its finest but looks fine installed and may actually prove to last longer as the light is higher and bottom is sealed from water getting in from below.

Good work!

In the off season, consider sending it out for re-chroming.
