Longevity of Horns
Longevity of Horns
Does any horn work on a boat for a decent length of time? I want to upgrade the horn on my 2007 19 Montauk. The OEM horn works on occasion and squeaks others. Thanks
Re: Longevity of Horns
[The longevity of a horn] all depends on water infiltration causing corrosion of the membrane, in turn causing the horn not to work. I had original horns on my 50-year-old Chris-Craft boats work, and some that were 10-years-old didn't [work]. Try spraying some WD-40 or PB-Blaster--don't drown it. Your current horn might start working again 100-percent of the time as it is almost new. Then make sure no water can collect in the horn [by orienting the horn] trumpet downward.

Re: Longevity of Horns
Two options:
--install the replacement inside the console, or
--install on the side of the console pointed down slightly (to allow water to drain)
I had this type of unit on my boat for seven years without a single problem:
