Are all outboards equipped with hour counters? I have an '87 that doesn't seem to have one.

To my knowledge, no outboard has or has ever had an engine hour meter built in or as standard equipment! Clark

Sport, I am not 100% certain, but I think that hour meters are usually an accessory item. I don't have any experience with big outboards, but I own several small and midrange outboards, and none have hour meters.

Hi,
Just bought a '2000 60 HP Four-Stroke to re-power my '71 Katama. The RPM meter warning lights (temp/oil, etc.) can be decoded to
read engine hours within 50 hours (i.e. 50-99 hours will have certain combo of lights on and off). Dealer didn't know about it but read it in owner's manual.
