Are all outboards equipped with hour counters? I have an '87 that doesn't seem to have one.

To my knowledge, no outboard has or has ever had an engine hour meter built in or as standard equipment! Clark |

Sport, I am not 100% certain, but I think that hour meters are usually an accessory item. I don't have any experience with big outboards, but I own several small and midrange outboards, and none have hour meters. |

Hi, Just bought a '2000 60 HP Four-Stroke to re-power my '71 Katama. The RPM meter warning lights (temp/oil, etc.) can be decoded to read engine hours within 50 hours (i.e. 50-99 hours will have certain combo of lights on and off). Dealer didn't know about it but read it in owner's manual. Bob |
