posted this over on mkt place also but can anyone let me know if the outrage i(17-19ft) is tippy at rest and also how hard is it to keep on line at just above idle. I sold my 17ft sport this year and bought a 175cc edgewater. Edgewater is a nice boat but I sure miss the stability of the sport at rest and the constant zig zag getting out of the marina (approx. i/2 mile) runs me nuts. If I can get relief in a pre 91 outrage Im ready to try it or go on to a 80s montauk. No knock on edgewater but these two issues are annoying and lifes to short anyway.

I have a '86 18 ft Outrage. We mostly crab with the boat. If everyone (3-5 people) goes to the same side of the boat with 30-35 lbs of line, pot and crabs then the boat does feel "tippy". If it is just one or two poeple are wandering around the deck then I don't notice it.

As for holding a line at just above idle, the boat does pull to the port side. This is due to the prop spin. The kind of steering that you have could also influence the amount of any pull.

The tippiness at rest and the wandering or hunting at low speed you are noticing in your Edgewater are characteristics of a deep vee hull. Depending on the shape of the deep vee including the deadrise at the transom, the hunting will be more or less pronounced. The 17 sport does not have a deep vee hull. It's hull shape is more of a cathedral design (vee in the middle with two prominent side sponsons) The side sponsons provide the rest stability and probably improve the low speed tracking.
