Just bought the boat. Looking for general information on it - history, perfomance characteristics etc. Did not see it in the listing of hulls on this site. Can someone provide sources? Is there away to get to origninal literature on the boat?

George, that is puzzling. Are you sure it`s not a Newport(77`-90`). Could you please describe the vessel and maybee that will help us identify the model for you? Regards-Jack Graner. |

George, congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum ---I wasn't aware they made a 17 (would be similar to the 17 Sport) in the GLS series --- however Larry G or Clark Roberts (our resident historians could fill us in I'm sure) --- the GLS was the all "starboard" type polymer plastic interior of the 13's 15's if I recall --- pretty clean -- low maintenance (read no wood)-- think with a side sit down console like the sport models or the Newport (didn't have the Newport's wide gunwales)-- think I'm right but sure there were some other differences from the standard sports models -- Tom PS send over a photo for Jim H to post would like to see her --- |

bigz, I just looked in the reference section and Whaler did produce a `17 Sport GLS from 90`-92`. Also George I noticed you`re boat may be a `17 Striper. Regards-Jack Graner. |

I think you guys are right - my bill of sale says GLS but it looks very much like the 13'Super sport limited in the reference section. Only difference is mine has a hatch cover over the storge area in the back (and an aftermarket 20 gal gas tank which I'm switchin to a pair of 18g and 12g to allow reinstall of ski pylon.)Did they make a 17' SSL? - George |

The 17-foot hull was available c.1988 with the following configurations:--Super Sport (wood console and seat back) --Super Sport Limited (molded twin consoles) --Montauk --Newport (3/4 width molded side console) --Striper (small molded side console with windshield and cushioned cooler seat; bow pedestal seat) This is right from the 1988 Whaler catalogue, one of the finest years of Classic Whalers. There is no "Standard" or "GLS" listed. --Jim Hebert |

The 17 Super Sport Limited has a "stern deck" which covers the interior of the boat from the transom well to the back of the rear seats. This sounds like what you are describing.Looks like a great boat! --Jim Hebert |

George, if you have a `17 Super Sport Limited, then I think it is quite rare. Those things are decked out in extras. I would love to own one for skiing, tubeing and cruising, partying, etc. I think their a little cluttered for fishing. Great buy-Jack Graner. |

I think you guys have it nailed. I'll send a picture to JimH this weekend to confirm. Next week off to Georgian bay for a shakedown. |
