A 13' sport I am looking at to purchase has had two folding/swivel seats mounted on the benches. Safe to assume this was never an option on these whalers?

But this also led me to wonder whether the bench seat is a comfortable way to go. I have been eyeing a whaler for a very long time and have always loved the teak parts. Do most people find that the steering and bench combination is ok for tooling around all day? I noticed 13' Super Sports have a bench back.

I would appreciate your thoughts... Paul

Adding back support to the plain thwart seats was probably the most common modification made by Whaler owners.

I haven't done that on my 15-Sport (yet) because I just can't bear to take a drill to that untouched mahogany plank.

But after a hour to two of boating, you will be wishing for more back support.

Jim,

Thanks. Yeah, I really would also hate the thought of drilling through the wood. I also think it takes away from the overall look and feel. But maybe a day of driving around would change my mind as well! :)

I just purchased a 62, 13 foot whaler with swivel seats mounted on the rear plank. Stainless steal plates with center incerts for the seats were installed so the seats can be "plugged or unplugged" The former owner also installed a steal plate just forwared of the front seat so one of the seats can be plugged into it. The seats are certainly more comfortable on this old back than just sitting on a plank - so - I like them.
