Just looked at what I think is a Katama hull. 16`7 hull, canvas windscreen, fiberglass console(stbd offset). Does anyone know if that`s what this is & are they hard to find, and worth more?

Sounds like mine ('71 Katama). Key is the year if you can find the hull # and year ('70-'76), I believe. I haven't seen another one. There are pictures of a '72 in the Cetacea section of this site. Mine was advertised as a Montauk. An e-mail to Boston Whaler with the hull # set me straight on what I really had. Don't know anything about pricing (rare or not).

Thanks for the reply Bob. I did get the hull#. I think it is a `71 boat. Hopefully I`ll find out more from other Whaler fans.

Outraged, I have a '72 Katama (that's her in the Cetacea section). I really don't know about the rarity of the model, but I do know of 2 more in my neighborhood here at the Jersey shore, although mine is in better shape. I did quite a bit of work on mine so if my trial and error knowledge can be of assistance to you just let me know. By the way the new DVD release of "Jaws" shows Spielberg in a Katama.

Sounds like a Katama. My '71 has a large fiberglass platform mounted aft of the console for a bench seat (fwd facing). The aft facing passengers have to fair on either a thin foam pad or on the hard, hard fiberglass.

Looking in Boat Trader, there is one for sale in the Portland, OR area for around $4.5k
