Looked at a20` `78 Outrage today. At the end of the logo aft on the hull was a red dot approx 1" in diameter. Does this indicate a commerical hull? Hull # 5226a 78k Thanks

Yes.

Either a red or black dot (in the newer models) in the gelcoat indicates commercial specs.

My 1981 15' BW Striper has a red dot behind the logo also (Hull #3581 81E). If it's a commercial hull, that's news to me. I would be very interested in finding out more about this.

Outraged - Your post about the red dot behind the logo got me wondering because mine has the dot. I have some old literature on Whalers from 1979 that indicated that back then a "workboat specification" option was offered for additional cost (appr $1200 for 20 Outrage) and some additional weight. It was offered on all recreational hulls 13' and larger. This provided additional resin and gelcoat thickness inside and out.
