While browsing through the 1981 brochure I received with my Montauk, I read the section about the GTX18. The boat looks like it was built on the Outrage 18 hull, but is a bow-rider and inboard powered. Looks pretty nice. I have never seen one of these in the water----just wondering if anyone has one or has anything to tell about this apparently rare model.

Its a small world. I was strolling along a marina this past weekend on Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT and I saw the exact boat you are describing, a GTX18. I never saw one before and meant to get a picture to send to JimH for his records. The boat looks sporty enough, must have been designed for water skiing and general run-about ues. I will try to get a picture this weekend if it is still in the water. Up north, people are pulling boats already. Kurt

The 18 GTX was introduced in 1985 and only was offered for 2 years. It was meant to be the "Newport" of the 18 Outrage hull, complete with full transom & sterndrive. It did not go over well, with very few sold.
As much as Boston Whaler has tried through the years, beginning with the 1975 19' Outrage/Revenge, sterndrives/inboards have never been popular with the Boston Whaler buyer. I believe they are even having sales trouble with the new 34' Defiance. Whalers and Outboards just seem to be unseparable.

Send a picture in to Jim for "Cetacea". Since the boat has a full transom, was the engine bracket mounted, or was it an OMC Sea Drive model?

THE OUTBOARD WAS TRANSOM MOUNTED, NO WHALER DRIVE / BRACKET ETC. I'LL SEND IN SOME PICTURES. THE OUTBOARD MODEL WAS VERY RARE, I'VE ONLY SEEN I/O'S OTHER THAN THIS ONE
