I have been told that the European DelQuay Dory is the same as the Boston Whaler?
Anyone knows if this is correct??

enn: The Dell Quay Dory was probably one of the better knockoffs based on the true Whaler. It was often referred as the "British Dory". As I recall they were slightly larger than the 13 footers and had aluminum rails instead of stainless.

Definitely not the real deal. Dave

I would like to help the person who asked if the whaler was the same boat as the delquay dory. We had both at our summer cottage on northern georgian bay both 13'. The boston whaler is a great boat although it has hard tri hull all the way to the stern. The delquay has a hard tri hull for about 2/3 the length of the boat and then the round out. This gave the Delquay a much softer ride in rough water
but the whaler was a faster boat but banged in rough water. Both had the same motors and the whaler was slightly faster in calm water. The Delquay had brass runners on the points of the tri hulls to protect them when beached or pulled up on rocks. The whaler didn't therefore the gelcoat was rubbed off the points and the foam became saturated and the boat eventually had to be retired because of its weight. We still use the Dory and it is a 1971. I personally just aquired an 11' and have just finished restoring it. They to me are an equal boat.

Hello Shiphased,

Small world. Our cottage is just south of Pointe au Barile. Whereabouts are you ?

Further to your post however, I've always wondered if the two manufacturers foam their boats in the same manner (i.e. under pressure.

A great deal of information about the Dell Quay Dory has been collected and presented in this article:

To the best of my knowledge the name of the company that produced this boat is Dell Quay, and all other spelling or corruption of that name is incorrect.
