I have been looking for an older Montauk to puchase and fix up. I have recently come across one of the Whaler bass boats which I understand were produced between 71-76. I believe this to be the same 16'7" hull as many of the other models. Does anyone know how rare these boats are? Are there any ups or downs known about them? I understand they have both fore and aft casting platforms. Let me know your comments please.

Oh, I forgot to mention. If you don't know what boat I am talking about there are photos available on this site, page 6.

I had a 1976 Whaler bass boat.I took the
seats out and used that area deck space.
It was a good all around boat.Somedays I
fished the flats but most of the time I
fished 10 to 20 miles out in the Gulf.
I was very pleased with the 16 whaler.
Good luck

Ed, did you feel that the raised platforms wasted deck space? Would the helm seat be sitting on the fwd edge of the aft casting platform or was there space for pedestal seats or a bench seat between the console and platform? I appreciate your help.

We sat between the CC and the rear deck on
A 94 quart cushioned cooler.the rear deck has
a baitwell and under the rear deck we had
dual batterys. The center console is mounted
atop the front deck.Dual 12gal.gas tanks
were mounted under the front deck.
Where the front pedestal seat was mounted
I built a hatch and stored our lifejackets.
Good Luck
