I am considering adding a hydraulic jackplate to my Montuk along with the new engine. I am considering a Bob's Machine FlatsJack with a 6" setback. Does anyone have any experience with jackplates on Montauks? I am looking for improved performance & better shallow water capability. Do ya'll think it would be worth it?

Trident --- I know Clark Roberts has experience with Bob's MS jack plates -- and from what I understand any boat can improve its perforamance using a stand off jack plate even as little as 6" --- worth it? gee really couldn't say --- you think you have a performance or handling problem? Tom

Thanks for the response. I don't have any performance problems but would like to improve shallow water capability and top-end speed. Keep em coming....

Trident, a manual jack plate (TH Marine, Huntsville Ala . makes an excellent 6" set back) will probably give you what you want! Reduced draft and better performance... Bob's machine MJ-5 and up will do the same but is a wider unit and interferes with the drain holes on the 17 hull!!!!! I am using a Bob's MJ-5 (5 inch set-back) on a 15 with 40 merc and a TH 8" setback on a 21 with 135 merc... also an Altus power unit (8" setback) on a 13 with 20" transom and a 15" (short shaft) 40 Mariner... all work really good.... reduced draft is my goal and the extra speed is nice too! Happy Whalin''' Clark
