Six or so weeks ago a beaten, circa 1971 Outrage 21' with a 150hp Mercury outboard literally washed up on my beach and it's been there ever since, taunting me. It's in pretty poor repair, but I'm interested in making it a project and want to get an idea of it's worth before contacting the owner. Anyone have an idea?

Take a look at a number of pictures of the boat at: http://www.6foot6.com/whaler and tell me what you think. The hull looks in reasonable condition, but there are some cracks around the transom wall (pictured). Clearly it's just been a beater boat, but I'd like it for my own.

First off, legally it still belongs to the owner who may or may not be aware of it's being missing. Assuming the engine runs and the hull is reasonably sound, it could have a vlaue of several thousand. Just looking at the ebay listings can show 21's that old int he 10K range. From the looks of the interior, it probably has some form of ID an if it doesn't the the Coas tGuard coudl come up with an owner via the HIN number on the stern or from the registration numbers on the bow. I would try to insure that it stayed put so that it doesn't wander any more causing more damage. My guess would be that the owner would be willing to pay a nice reward for it's return.

Let us know the outcome, Larry; it looks like a decent boat, my guess is that it's stolen.....

Conclusion. I made a flyer and papered the neighborhood to see if there was a local owner, eventually contacting the harbormaster as well. I really just wanted to find the owner and make him an offer because I truly love that hull style.

As it turns out, the owner beached the whaler due to a broken starter motor, and hasn't got around to dealing with it yet (10 weeks now). He lives a few blocks away. I left a message asking if he'd like to sell it, but haven't got a reply. It has, though, made me look every day for a used 71 Outrage . I'm hooked.
